In East Tennessee, winter is beginning to give way to slightly warmer temperatures... and the bees are responding. This also marks the start of what beekeepers refer to as "the buildup". In this first inspection of the overwintered colonies we check for laying queens, food stores, brood, and the overall health of our colonies . This is the time of year seasoned beekeepers get very nervous as things can go very wrong, very fast.
