This is Hyundai’s flagship SUV - it was new for 2018 and it’s a very good 3-row SUV

3.8L n/a V6 running on an Atkinson cycle so it actually gets decent fuel economy. 19 city, 26 highway - interestingly enough over our week of testing it actually got better fuel economy than the Mazda CX5 turbo…a compact 4cylinder….
Oh and the engine makes 291hp and 262 lbft…and it feels quick

That power goes through a super smooth 8-speed transmission to all 4 wheels. And thinking about if you’re going to live in your car you can live anywhere…well anywhere your car will take you. Hyundai’s H-trac AWD is great. It’s not 4wd or 4x4 like a dedicated offroader, but you can lock your center differential to simulate a 4x4 system. With a decent set of tires this can tackle mild to moderate trails no problem

Around back you’ve got a tow hitch which is good for 5000 lbs

Speaking of visibility, and offroading - your cameras are fantastic, you get 360 camera views and it’s crystal clear

with 3rd row up not huge, but you have a secret bin underneath. But then you can push a button and it’ll drop the third row and then you have a huge space with a perfectly flat floor. You also have buttons to drop the second row seats

these seats aren’t really designed for people over 5’10” so it’s best to keep this for use for kids - however it’s still better space than you get in teh Highlander, Pilot, etc. PLUS you get usb chargers back here

To get back here is tough in any 3-row SUV or minivan, but it’s less tough here than in other competitors (does the chair stay up like for a bebe?)

The 2ns row, though, is where passengers will be most of the time and it’s really spacious, the seats are comfy, recline, slide, heated and cooled seats and rear passengers get their own sunroof

You don’t get a rear entertainment package with the Palisade, but you do have USBs on the sides of the front seats, plus you’ve got a full house outlet in this center console so you could easily hook up your own little TV or gaming console

You’ve also got sunshades to keep the glare off your screens and a bunch of cupholders for your g-fuel

You have a million places to store stuff. Under your center console. Your center console itself, and the cupholder area can be customzied to offer more space for stuff or more places for cups..still not big enough for the Downshift water bottle test

chargers everywhere including a wireless pad, but it’s kinda out of the way and ACP is still wired so you’re probably going to be plugging in your phone anyway - however, as wireless charging pads go, this is a good one

Everything, for the most part has physical buttons, dials, or switches from your heated seats to your drive modes…one thing that may take a second to get used to, though is the push-button gear selector, but that allows for more storage space

Moving up you’ve got the big touchscreen and 90% of the time you’ll have car play with spotify up or maps. But if you don’t you can play the aggressive sounds of nature, you can use the radio like you’re 90 and the graphics remind you of how you were a kid back when edison invented the right light bulb

You’ve also got a cool feature in car talk so you can project your voice over the speakers to the people in the back of the car without having to turn around and yell

You also have quiet mode so the sound automatically gets killed in the back rows and the front volume is reduced to level 7

speaking of sound, you’ve got Harmon kardon audio in here which throws a great sound and has really cool speaker covers

last thing about sound, but you can get your radio station to show up in your HUD along with your speed, the speed limit, and your HDAS status

You’ve got a digital cluster which looks great even when it’s really bright and it changes with your drive modes. Weirdly though of the 5 drive modes 3 have the same graphics..now let’s jump outside the car

This is the Calligraphy which means it gets some special touches over any of the other trims. This grille pattern is special, and these 20” wheels are special and this really makes the vehicle for me. This is not as attractive as the sister Telluride, but with this trim and these pieces it looks very expensive

Purple paint looks black in low light, which I like. Teh front lighting detail is really cool. The profile is reasonably attractive, and the rear has interesting taillights and the chrome palisade script. Dual port exhaust on one side
