SACRAMENTO, Calif. β€”β€Œ It was just what the National Basketball Association (NBA) wanted: an epic Clash-of-the Titans matchup of Northern California teams in the 1st game of the SoFi Play-In Tournament.

After the smoke cleared, it was quite evident that a dynasty may be on the brink of distinction going into the next season. The Sacramento Kings eliminated the Golden State Warriors from the postseason with a convincing 118-94 victory at Golden 1 Center on April 16.

Keegan Murray had 32 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 steals in 38 minutes for the Kings, who were discarded by the Warriors in the first round of the NBA Playoffs last season. De’Aaron Fox had 24 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals in 38 minutes. He scored 14 points in the third quarter for the Kings.

Domantas Sabonis added 16 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block shot for Sacramento, who will contend with the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday in the Crescent City. Keon Ellis had 15 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, and 3 blocked shots in 38 minutes for the Kings. Harrison Barnes added 17 points.

Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 22 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals in 36 minutes, and Jonathan Kuminga had 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists off the bench. Moses Moody had 16 points while Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins had 12 points each in a losing effort.

Klay Thompson missed all of his 10 shots from the field in 31 minutes, including 6 misfires in 3-point point territory. The Kings harassed Thompson defensively all night and kept at least two bodies in front of Curry every time he touched the basketball. It is the third time the Warriors have not made the playoffs under head coach Steve Kerry since 2014.

The Kings led 54-50 at the half but outscored the Warriors 37-26 in the 3rd quarter with the help of Fox, who made 6 of 12 shots, including 2 3-pointers in the frame. Murray scored 10 points. The Kings built up a nice 26-point lead on a 3-point basket by Murray to make the score 116-90 at the 2:15 mark of the fourth quarter. Kerr immediately called a timeout to pull out of his starters.

🎟 Sacramento Kings head coach Mike Brown used an eight-man rotation for most of the night that included reserves Trey Lyles, Davion Mitchell, and Alex Lin. The Kings only needed 12 points from the bench.

🎟 The Golden State Warriors, particularly Stephen Curry and Draymond Green pondered the team’s future after the loss to the Kings. With Klay Thompson, they have won 4 NBA Championships.
β€œI can never see myself without those two guys,” Curry said of the thought of not playing with Thompson and Green in San Francisco.

🎟 The Los Angeles Lakers (No.8) beat the New Orleans Pelicans (No. 7) 110-106 to advance to the 7th spot in the NBA Western Conference. They will play the No.2 Denver Nuggets. LeBron James had 23 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists. Anthony Davis had 21 points and 15 rebounds. D’Angelo Russell had 21 points. Zion Williamson had 40 points for the Pelicans but exited the game at the 3:13 tick of the fourth quarter.

🎟. The New Orleans Pelicans have beaten the Sacramento Kings 5-straight times this season, the last time 135-123 on April 11 at G1C. The winner plays No. 1 seed Oklahoma City Thunder to officially start the NBA Playoffs in the Western Conference.
