On Wednesday, July 19, during the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party’s Thunderdome Debate: Trade and Economic Engagement with China, Mary E. Lovely, Senior Fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics, argued why revoking China’s permanent normal trade relationship (PNTR) with the United States would be detrimental to the US economy. Lovely says removing PNTR would be a declaration of economic war with China, which won’t only hurt the United States’ relationship with China, but American households as well through higher taxes and further supply chain disruptions in areas such as cell phones and laptops.
