President Biden is cutting short his weekend and returning to Washington to consult his national security team about events in the Middle East.

It comes after Iranian special forces seized a cargo ship linked to Israel - boarding the vessel between the United Arab Emirates and Iran, in the Strait of Hormuz, and taking it into Iranian waters. Israel was braced for retaliation for last week's air strike on Iran's consulate in Damascus, which killed top Iranian commanders.
