Whether you are cutting a mailbox post, as I am, cutting oak barrels in half or simply find yourself needing to draw a straight line around an object, here is an easy trick to doing so. Spoiler alert: use a rubber band. If the object you want to draw around is larger than the rubber band, use string that you tie both ends to the rubber band. The string will then go around the object and the rubber band gives you a bit of stretch so that you can move it and it will stay in place.
