This is the ultimate desk Directors Cut edition...only 6 months late... and there are still editing issues... forgiveness please! This is the version with all the details! EVERY. LAST. DETAIL. For all of 2020 I have been working from home and wanted a proper desk. In a typical day I might do video editing, animation, product design, voice recording and editing, graphic design, VR experience development, and I might even make a few drawings in the process. My perfect desk is the one that makes all of that happen without too much clutter. I set out to design and build the ultimate productivity solution.

To pull that off the desk features a monitor stand for a 4K 32” monitor and 2 secondary monitors, A 5.1 surround sound system, in-desk A/C power and USB charging, a custom USB 3.0 Hub and an easy access wireless charger, a large drawer for all the random stuff I keep by my side, a shelf for a virtual reality headset with a place to store its cable, adjustable legs (sit-stand desk), and with all this stuff cable management is a high priority. It’s a lot to pack into a desk.

For this build I designed 2 different styles of cable guides and clips to effectively manage over 20 cables running through the desk. A custom USB hub is another 3D printed part that made it into the final desk. During the process of the build I also designed and used multiple functional 3D printed tools and attachments. It was quite a build!

It makes a great gaming desk as well. It needed to be very sturdy to support all those graphics cards!

This episode’s featured design is “Stay Vigilant – Remember Chicxulub”
It reminds us to #RememberChicxulub. That’s the name of the asteroid that killed off the dinosaurs. It can be hard to see a killer asteroid heralding towards earth. So just remember to stay vigilant! Keep your eyes to the skys! Promote asteroid impact awareness. IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU!
It’s serious but it’s also a joke… NASA and other agencies are constantly scanning space for large dangerous objects and the likelihood of impact in the next few hundred years is LOW. GOOD NEWS! Support the sciences and related organizations that do this kind of work (Planetary Society)! Pick up some merch today! (Buying 3D Handyman merchandise does not directly support the sciences)
