2005 marks the end of 10 Generations of the Bonneville nameplate. The name ran from 1958 to 2005, and would ultimately be replaced by a rebadged variant of the rear-wheel drive Holden Commodore, called the G8, thus ending its 47-year production run.
In 1987 with the 8th Generation, they switched from rear wheel drive to front wheel drive to the end of production. Designed to compete with the likes of the BMW 5-Series, Pontiac had taken on serious competition from one the Ultimate Driving Machine.
Pontiac’s Luxury with Attitude car sat on GM’s G-Platform. GM announced on February 8th, 2005 that the Bonneville would be dropped from the lineup for the 2006 model year. With only 12,000 Bonnevilles sold in 2005, the last Bonneville left the Detroit-Hamtramck line on May 7, 2005. Our car was produced in October of 2004.
