This was the first car ride for Rocco! As you may be able to tell, he is not near fully grown for a Miniature Schnauzer. He was a little over 3 months at a time of this video.

I wanted to begin exposing Rocco to as much as possible as soon as I could. The gas station was a good training exercise as we had to wait in the Costco Gas line and there were many distractions. He was a little overwhelmed because he saw other people (whaaatttt??) but he was able to make it through just fine. The toys were only used to make him feel more comfortable through his first experience. We slowly phased out toys on car rides.

You can see his curiosity in plain sight as he takes in all there is to see (and smell!). Miniature Schnauzers love to sniff around so I'm sure he was taking in all those new outside aromas.

I was giving Rocco treats throughout the drive to associate the experience with something that he liked, treats! So when he took his little fall I wanted to make sure he got a treat shortly thereafter as to not feel discouraged or have any negative association with the overall experience.

If you are watching this video because you're on the fence about potentially being a Miniature Schnauzer owner, I would highly recommend it. Miniature Schnauzers are amazing dogs and will love you like no other. They are extremely smart and as long as you train your Miniature Schnauzer adequately, I believe they are able to adapt to any type of living situation. For example, Miniature Schnauzers are extremely protective of their territory. This may discourage some people if they have a lot of visitors at their home. However, if you begin training at an early stage and constantly reinforce good habits, you'll be surprised about how quickly they pick up the training you are providing.
