I was 3 years old when the nuclear accident happened in Ukraine and my family lived two hours away. Six years later, my family fled the Soviet Union as refugees and immigrated to America where I have lived for 30 years in peace and prosperity.

Right now, the world is united in support of Ukraine. There are many, like me, who are reading, watching and thinking about this war non-stop. And there are many who don’t know why they should care.

Through my platform as a magician, I've been given the opportunity to bring attention to this egregious threat to democracy, liberty, and human life against which Ukrainians are bravely defending.

I've also been given the opportunity to help raise money for Ukrainian refugees with a telethon performance:    • Magic for Ukraine   benefitting the @rescueorg.

I know this video is not my usual, fun magic performance. I’m focused on speaking up in hopes of providing some context and urgency; a human, personal connection, especially for those who may not be fully engaged in what is happening.

I live each day with enormous gratitude—to both fate and to my parents—for the freedom to live with my family in peace and to perform magic for a living.

Here's to hoping my Ukrainian brothers and sisters will be able to enjoy that freedom again, very soon.
