Alan Kulwicki won the 1992 Winston Cup championship against all odds and on a shoestring budget as an owner-driver. Something like that does not go unnoticed, and shortly thereafter, a lot of big players in the NASCAR landscape jumped ship and became owner-drivers themselves. However, all of them failed to live up to Alan's success, and this, Alan kind of ruined the 90's for all of NASCAR.
