Tape decks! They are all the rage today! Time to finish my little DIY project that I started 4 years ago and to put it into a housing.

This 4-way speed selector lets you "save" 4 tape speed settings and switch between them. It also has a tape stop feature that ... well ... stops the tape. It is quite easy to build once you have all the parts. You need:
4 x potentiometers 500 Ohm
1 x 4-way rotary switch
1 x push-to-close button
soldering stuff and housing

For the performance part: As described, the top walkman has a continuous drum beat (not yet a tape loop) for which I recorded all high hats on the left channel and all beats on the right channel. With the mixer I can then blend both parts together. I needed a L/R splitter and mono-to-stereo adapters even though the Dich studios mixer is mono (dual mono). The drone is just a continous minor key tone that then gets sped up and slowed down with my selector. I made the sound in Propellerheads Reason.
