The 2013 Ford Escape hit the road in 2012, fresh out of a major overhaul that geared it up for mass appeal in the fiercely competitive family crossover segment.

Competing with machines like the Mazda CX-5 and Nissan Rogue, this generation Ford Escape capitalized on the automaker’s latest powertrain, safety and connectivity tech, and was available in a wide range of trim grades and configurations to match the needs of just about any shopper.

A major update was applied for model-year 2017, when our Lesley Wimbush called it a crossover that wouldn’t leave you dying of boredom. Read more on that here. The 2017 model year brought some cosmetic updates, a retuned suspension system, and new and refreshed EcoBoost engine options including the popular 2-litre turbo with 245 horsepower. Look for towing capacity of 3,500 lbs. on select models, as well better materials on board, improved safety feature content, and an all-new tech suite with Ford’s more modern Sync 3 system coming online that year.
