The German-American Trade and Tech Conference is the centerpiece of Aspen Germany’s German-American Trade and Tech Dialogue.

At a time when crucial elections on both sides of the Atlantic will shape the future of the transatlantic relationship, the Dialogue process provides ample opportunity to discuss approaches to, and areas of, cooperation. In addition to topics, which were already discussed during the first GATTD cycle, such as the dismantling of trade barriers, cooperation on export controls, and supply chain security, the GATTD will also address new issues such as financial stability, the future of currencies, and the perspective of emerging economies on the transatlantic relationship. Given the rapid pace of political, economic, and technological change, the project will strengthen existing links between transatlantic policymakers and create new networks.

The German-American Trade and Tech Conference was held March 19-20, 2024 at the Landesvertretung Baden-Württemberg in Berlin. Entitled “Trade, Tech, and Transformation: Transatlantic Visions in Action,” the conference sought to elevate the discussion of German-American and European-American cooperation to a broader level, by bringing together a variety of perspectives and stakeholders. It also provided an opportunity to deepen relationships among the high-level participants from the workshops.

The day-and-a-half-long event included a mix of formats, ranging from keynotes, bilateral and multilateral discussions, and fishbowls to two-on-two discussions, panel debates, and breakout sessions. Therefore, the participants had numerous opportunities to engage with thought-provoking ideas. Aspen Germany also worked with print, broadcast, digital, and social media to facilitate and incorporate discussion and debate across borders. The event was held in English.
