HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) -- The "Stop The Overdose Project" (STOP), which educates people about teenage substance abuse, is presenting its organization to the city commission on Tuesday afternoon.

It comes as Eyewitness News is told that 60 Henderson County officers responded to 60 overdoses in 2023 -- 14 of which were fatal.

Eyewitness News is also told addictions and overdoses are daily occurrences in Henderson, and Carrie Gentry is putting her foo down to make a difference.

Gentry serves as the STOP community addiction awareness director and is a mother and former teacher. She is now educating the Henderson community about how to avoid the path of addiction.

Gentry tells Eyewitness News that STOP can let people know what resources are available to them. As a former educator, she is taking stories of addiction personally.

"Seeing my former students fall into addiction -- and they're young -- and the momma part of me hurts because they're also my babies too," Gentry says. "So, it's always been a mission for me. But this makes it a bigger scale for me."

There's an opportunity on Wednesday night to learn more about substance abuse.

Everyone is invited to attend the "Substance Abuse Education Parent Night" at the Recovery Resource Club of Henderson.

It will be held on Wednesday beginning at 5:30 p.m.
