In order to improve the reliability and safety of Structures, Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) has become a popular vehicle to determine the condition of the monitored structure and identify potential problems at an early stage. Foil strain gages are widely used in Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) projects and systems because they are inexpensive, easy to install, and very precise and accurate to measure strain. In its simplest form, concrete is a mixture of paste (cement) and aggregates, or rocks. Concrete is a composite material that requires the use of the correct surface preparation materials and techniques in order to install a strain gage.
In this iNotes video, Tom and Collin show how to achieve a successful strain gage installation from start to finish.
This one strong and durable material , can build dams , roads, skyscrapers, bridges, sidewalks and houses. These strain gages can provide detailed information which SHM algorithms can utilize to detect, locate, and assess the structural damage caused by severe loading events and progressive environmental deterioration.
