We're finally behind the wheel of Jeep's first electrified vehicle, the 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Unlimited Rubicon. We're seeing if it lives up to what we expect a Wrangler PHEV to be.

This video was made possible with the support of Elmec and their EVduty Smart Home Charger. You can schedule, control access, and even see your estimated charging costs from the EVduty smartphone app. Use public charging stations and grant access to your own all from the app. For more information about the EVduty Smart Home Charger visit: https://www.elmec.ca/language/en/

This week on TestDrive we're looking at the 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Unlimited Rubicon with an as-tested price of just over $73,000.00 CAD which sounds pricy, but is only about $600 more than a similarly-equipped Wrangler Rubicon with the normal 2.0L 4 cylinder engine. We had this booked a while ago but due to some unforeseen issues we're looking at it later in our schedule than hoped. Currently the Wrangler 4xe is only offered in the Unlimited (4-door) version, but Jeep may expand that down the road.

We go over the technical specifications of the 2022 Wrangler 4xe including the total power output of this PHEV system, how the electric motors work, and the capacity and range of the Lithium-ion battery system. We also go over some of the reasons why you may be considering this vehicle and if it's still can perform the way Jeep Wrangler enthusiasts expect it to.

We then take the 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Unlimited Rubicon on a comprehensive real-world road test during the winter, including on somewhat bad road conditions. We go over our fuel economy test results both with an empty battery at start, along with how this PHEV performed on our test loop starting off with 100% charge. We discuss how our experience has been driving this Jeep for over 2,000 kms over the course of a week, and how efficient it was as a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.

We discuss some of the specifics of the PHEV system including the remote starter, ev-only mode, brake regeneration, and how the transition from EV to gas feels in the real world.
