Volkswagen is making strides in the Chinese auto market with the unveiling of its latest concept car, the ID. CODE, at the Auto China 24 trade fair in Beijing. This launch is a clear signal of Volkswagen’s commitment to its “in China, for China” strategy, which seeks to closely align with the preferences and needs of Chinese consumers, the largest auto market in the world.

The ID. CODE concept car is a major highlight, featuring a groundbreaking design that previews a large, all-electric SUV and boasts capabilities for Level 4 fully autonomous driving. The reveal of this concept car is part of Volkswagen’s broader strategy to transition into the new era of mobility, focusing heavily on electrification and advanced technologies tailored for the Chinese market.

Volkswagen’s CEO, Thomas Schäfer, emphasized the company’s success in China over the past 40 years and its future vision with the ID. CODE. "The ID. CODE is just a first glimpse into Volkswagen's future in China, marked by new design standards, advanced technology, and a holistic brand experience tailored specifically to Chinese consumers," said Schäfer.

In addition to the ID. CODE, Volkswagen is also launching the ID.UX sub-brand, targeting a younger demographic with lifestyle-oriented, all-electric models. The first model under this new brand, the ID.UNYX, is expected to hit the market in 2024. This sub-brand will play a crucial role in appealing to the tech-savvy, environmentally conscious younger generation in China.

By 2030, the Volkswagen ID. family will expand to include 16 models, with a mix of new electric vehicles and electrified versions of existing ICE models. Volkswagen is also enhancing its local R&D capabilities in China, working closely with Chinese tech companies and expanding its ecosystem of production and development to create vehicles that are perfectly suited to the needs of Chinese consumers.

This strategic move not only strengthens Volkswagen's commitment to China but also sets a new standard for innovation and sustainability in the automotive industry.
