Almost a year into the pandemic, and it's safe to assume that society as we know it has been changed forever. No longer are we the same people we were a year ago and perhaps thats how it should be. However, maybe this world we are in now is one we aren't necessarily completely foreign to? Many times, in various media mediums, groups or individuals have been thrusted into a world that challenges them. A harsher world that speaks volumes to who we TRULY can be. Science Fiction, as fantastical as it can be, always has a shred of truth to it, one that can tackle larger themes while also taking a mirror to ourselves. That's what can make the genre shine. For me, Neon Genesis Evangelion, while flawed, is an exemplary series that dares to examine these questions in its own unique way. It's a canvas for a creator, and sometimes, thats when art can be it's most impactful.
Obviously, this was a topic I had in my mind BEFORE the pandemic and now it's finally coming into fruition after many delays. This video obviously hits different now that we are a year into COVID, but I hope its message still resonates.
