Pancho’s Intros No.10
Here’s a quick tutorial of the intro to Pancho Amat’s ‘Guarapo, Pimiento y Sal’ on Tres Cubano from his epic 2019 recording ‘El Swing Del Son’.

The percussion is by the amazing Milwaukee based Bongocero and all-around percussion master Carlos Adames.

Like I've said many times before, I could transcribe Pancho's intros all day long. You can learn so much from them in terms of fingering, chord placement, and phrasing. Each one is like a 30 second masterclass in modern Tres.

Pancho Amat tunes like the top three strings of a guitar (GBE) so for the tutorial I am as well. If you are tuned to standard C (GCE) simply bring your middle course down by 1/2 step.

The Tres I’m using in the video is the Mahogany Baby Taylor that I use in my workshop to make my Tres Conversion Kits. This is a kit I was working on for a customer in Helsinki, Finland. It was sounding great so I thought I’d use it in a video.

The string gauges I'm using are:
G09/24 C17/17 E11/11

I transcribe all of the songs for my tutorials myself so I don't have the tablature for any of them.
