We’re in the past. 1 year before the current events. To prevent Japan from going into civil wars, the supreme leader or so-called Taiko, ordered the formation of the council of Regents before his death. Ishido, Kiyama, Ohno, Sugiyama, and Toranaga. He specifically wanted Toranaga to take care of his heir until he becomes 16 so he can become the Taiko. To teach him the most important lesson. That the man who stands at the greatest height, is the loneliest man on the realm. That is because Toranaga married his wife after his death. The Taiko was saying all this on his deathbed.
