What is it like to join EUYO? During the spring tour 2023, we asked Carolane Gonin-Joubert (cello, France) about how she's finding her first tour with us.

Carolane is currently studying at Conservatoire national Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (CNSMDP), in the class of Marc Coppey and Pauline Bartissol. Prior to this, she studied with Hélène Dautry in Paris and Augustin Lefebvre in Lyon, and she has also worked in masterclasses with Matthias Bartolomey, Emmanuelle Bertrand, Yvan Chiffoleau, Stephan Forck, Konstantin Heidrich, Roland Pidoux and Denis Severin.

Passionate about chamber music, Carolane founded the Quatuor Malinconia in 2016, with whom she played for five years. She and her three colleagues in the quartet studied with the Quatuor Debussy in Lyon, and benefited from the advice of the Akilone, Aviv, Danel, Ebène, Manfred and Ysaye quartets during academies and masterclasses. Quatuor Malinconia has performed in France, Germany and Portugal, and received a scholarship in 2020 from the Véronique Daverio Foundation.

Carolane also attaches particular importance to orchestral playing. She was Principal Cello of the French National Youth Orchestra (Orchestre Français des Jeunes, OFJ) in 2022, and has also been a member of the Orchestre Franco-Arménien de Jeunes, the Orchestre des Jeunes d'Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and the Orchestre Atelier Ostinato. In 2023, Carolane joined the European Union Youth Orchestra, touring Poland, Romania, Serbia, North Macedonia, Kosovo, Greece, Austria, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands.

Committed to making classical music more accessible, Carolane also regularly performs in schools, retirement homes, prisons, centres for the disabled, hospitals, and for other community initiatives.
