Because so much hitting in JKD is done from the leading side, it makes sense to put the stronger hand/foot up front. Yes, that's logical. But is it absolutely necessary? In other words, is it a sin - a repudiation of JKD to put the weak side up front?

No.

Though the power side forward is the dominant theory in JKD, it's not a tactical absolute. There are some advantages to using the weak side forward and in this video we cover a few of them. As always, we make these videos to help the viewer think logically about self-defense, JKD, training, and Wing Chun. This subject is one that really helps us to zero in on the difference between tactical and technical fundamentals, thereby freeing us from irrational assumptions that often plague trainees in Bruce Lee's brilliant fighting method.
