Sadiq Khan remained defiant over his net zero policies as he won the London mayoral election to win an unprecedented third term in City Hall.

The Labour politician comfortably saw off his Conservative challenger, Susan Hall, with a majority of 276,428, beating Mrs Hall by 43.9 per cent of the vote to 32.7 per cent.

The final result is broadly in line with some of the polling in the run-up to the vote, with Savanta’s final poll on Wednesday predicting a 10-point lead for Mr Khan, while last month Redfield and Wilton predicted that he would win by 13 points.
