The Pace Report: "Feel Good Music" The Endea Owens Interview
Welcome to this very special edition of The Pace Report live from the 2023 Charlie Parker Jazz Festival in Harlem, New York.

Over the last three years, bassist Endea Owens has been an important musician on the New York City scene. In addition to be being the house bassist for the critically-acclaimed The Late Show with Steven Colbert under the music direction of Louis Cato, is vocalist and bassist in Grammy-Award winning pianist's Jon Baptiste band Stay Human, and now a leader of her own band, The Cookout.

This Detroit, Michigan native is a graduate of Caas Tech High School and was mentored by the late Marcus Belgrave, bassist Rodney Whitaker, and NEA Jazz Master Ron Carter. Endea is a graduate of the famed Juliard School and has toured and performed with Wynton Marsalis, Jazzmeia Horn, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Steve Turre, Diana Ross, and Jennifer Holiday.

Endea is this year's 2023 Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra's MAC Innovator. This is year-long residency that works to showcase and highlight Black leaders of Classical music.

Her debut album "Feel Good Music" was just released and is set to tour with her band The Cookout this fall.

In this edition of The Pace Report you'll see Endea perform music off her new album as well as discuss her Detroit roots, reflect on the great Marcus Belgrave, and her playing nightly on The Late Show.
