The Warriors have added an undrafted rookie to the roster after bringing players like Mac McClung and JaMychal Green to the team before training camp. Trevion Williams declared for the NBA draft through an agent and remained undrafted in the 2022 NBA draft, but he did not have to wait long to find an opportunity at the next level. He signed with the Boston Celtics to compete with their Summer League roster. Recently, Trevion Williams found a new roster for the 2022-2023 season. The Golden State Warriors have reportedly signed the big man to an exhibit 10 contract which means that he will join the warriors on a one-year, non-guaranteed minimum contract that may change to a two-way contract before next season. While the former Purdue standout may not be with the team in the long run, he will still have a chance to showcase his skill sets.
Today’s video will be about Trevion Williams and why he was a great signing for the warriors.

Let’s keep rolling.
While the roster and rotation of the defending champions appear set, they may have at least one roster spot available for Trevion Williams, Mac McClung, or anyone who impresses enough and earns it. The Warriors have had major success with current starting center Kevon Looney, their first-round pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. They also have the former No.2 overall pick James Wiseman on their roster. Looney is intangible and offers exceptional IQ, and this will be what the warriors would expect from Williams. Moreover, Looney is impressive in rolling to the hoop, setting screens, converting within a few feet of the bucket, and rebounding, especially on the offensive glass. Looney has been terrific defensively, guarding players like James Harden and Damian Lillard. Trevion Williams, on the other hand, can also provide the Golden State Warriors with additional frontcourt depth and a similar style of play.
The athletic game of Trevion Williams was on full display during his time with the Boston Celtics in the Las Vegas Summer League. Williams is capable of stepping behind the arc, especially when drawing a slower defender. The key element for Williams is his ability to defend guards which he was able to do at Purdue and in the summer league. He put up 7 points and 5 rebounds in 12 minutes during the Celtics-Warriors summer league matchup before eventually signing with the Golden State. It is difficult to presume a player’s game at the highest level in basketball. If Williams could offer a similar skill set to Looney, he may prove himself to be an extraordinary pick for the defending champions.
Williams could be a great fit for the warriors in the offense as the defending champs have always valued big men that can pass the ball, such as Draymond Green. Green has been playing for years in the high post for the warriors. He is a master at handoffs, passing the cutters, and scoring. In Theory, the warriors can use Williams in the high post, and he will probably find Stephen Curry or Klay Thompson for open shots, but to see the floor, he needs to improve on the defensive end. In today’s NBA, the players that cannot defend are no good, even if they are good offensively. Trevion Williams has the potential to be a rotation player.
Fortunately, the Warriors are one of the best teams at developing players. Trevion Williams weighs 265 pounds at 6’9’’, which makes it rather difficult for him to jump higher. He weighed 325 pounds when he went to college from high school and lost 50 pounds by December of his freshman year. In comparison, Wiseman is 7 ft. tall and weighs about 245 pounds.

Imagine a passer of such caliber crashing the boards alongside Looney, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Jordan Poole. This lineup may never see the floor, but we could mostly see him paired with Draymond Green in the front court if he gets a spot on the roster. He would learn a lot playing behind veterans like Draymond Green and Kevon Looney, if he makes it to the team. Earning a roster spot with the warriors won’t be a piece of cake for Williams. The Golden State Warriors already have Draymond Green, Kevon Looney, and James Wiseman in the front court, but there is still an opportunity for Williams to stick around as an added layer of depth.
And what do you guys think? What are the odds for him to earn a permanent spot in the warrior’s roaster? How well do you think he’ll perform? I would love to hear your opinion, so please let me know what you think in the comments. Thanks for watching, and don’t forget to like and subscribe to our channel for more amazing NBA content!
