If you're a fan of video games and have ever thought of making your own, you're in luck because I've put together a list of 8 free tools to help you get started with game development.

In this video, I'll be sharing some of my personal favorite resources that have helped me along my journey in game development. Whether you're an absolute beginner or have some experience already, these tools are sure to be useful.

First up are game engines, which are essential for developing games. Luckily, game engines like Unity, Unreal, and Godot are all free for individuals to use. I'll be discussing the pros and cons of each of these game engines and providing some tips on how to get started with them.

Another great resource for learning game development is YouTube tutorials. There's no need to spend thousands of dollars on an online course when you can find tons of free tutorials on YouTube. I'll be sharing some of my favorite channels that have helped me learn about game design, including Game Maker's Toolkit, Sunny Valley Studio, and DevDuck.

For those of you looking to create your own game art, there are options to use free assets from websites like itch.io and opengameart, or use tools like GIMP, Piskel, and Blender for creating your own art. I'll be discussing the benefits of each of these tools and how to get started with them.

When it comes to programming, having a good IDE (Integrated Development Environment) is essential. I personally recommend Visual Studio, which is free to download and offers tons of functionality for developing, debugging, testing, and collaborating. However, there are also other IDEs like Eclipse and NetBeans that may be better suited for certain programming languages.

Source control is another important aspect of game development, and Github is an absolute necessity for any sort of software development in general. It's totally free and allows you to upload different versions of your code base, roll back to different versions, and get your code from anywhere. I'll be discussing how to set up a Github account and the benefits of using it for game development.

To help keep everything organized, I'll also be sharing some free productivity and program management apps like Notion, Walling, and Trello. These tools can help you keep track of your tasks and stay productive while working on your game.

And finally, I'll be introducing a brand new tool that I've recently discovered: ChatGPT. ChatGPT is a free large language model that can help with writing code, generating dialogue, and more. I'll be showing you how to use it and providing some examples of how it can be useful for game development.

So if you're interested in getting started with game development but don't know where to begin, this video is a great place to start. By the end of it, you'll have a solid understanding of the free tools available to you and how to use them to make your own game.
