Roman women were absolutely forbidden to drink wine, because it was thought to encourage indecent behavior. 3. Another colorful law required prostitutes to dye their hair blonde. You see, Ancient Roman woman were typically naturally brunettes. Having blonde hair was associated with barbarian culture and was undesirable. So, in an effort to humiliate sex workers and separate them from the so-called dignified women in society, prostitutes were legally required to dye their hair blonde.
