Jack Frost, Pennsylvania - On this beautiful bluebird day, I was testing out this new purchase of lens protectors for my 360 camera -- they weren't great btw... the stitch line is awful! if you know what it looks like in this video..

.. And then I came upon an injured skier.

This is the 2nd time this year I had to call Ski Patrol for an injured rider. This was more concerning as it was a head injury without a helmet. You can probably sense - from my fumbling of words - how concerned I was while trying to gather my thoughts. Hopefully I could compose myself next time I am in this situation so I can communicate with Ski Patrol more effectively.

This happened at one of the resort’s black rated trail, and perhaps the steepest section of any of their run. Based on the accounts from the two good samaritans who witnessed her crash, and who stayed with her throughout (not with her party), she lost control towards the bottom half of the steep section. Slammed her head and crashed all the way towards the wooded area off the side of the trail.

[09:17] Ski Patrol's on-scene initial assessment was head injury with scalp laceration.

She must’ve sustained the head laceration on hard pack snow based on the blood trail that was present on the snow. I am certain that with a helmet, she wouldn’t have sustained the injury and would have not bled.

It was a bit hard to communicate with her as it looks like english wasn’t her first language. And as well as she seems to be disoriented likely from sustaining a concussion.

A few moments after I turned off my camera, her skiing buddies arrived, also without helmets on..

Me, and the two good samaritan riders stayed until she was put on the rescue toboggan and ski patrol got the information they needed from us.

LESSONS TO TAKE FROM THIS:
1. WEAR A HELMET! You will never know when your luck runs out - always be on the side of caution.
2. Always make sure you have quick access to the Ski Patrol emergency number of the resort you are visiting for the day on your phone.
3. Know the limits of your ability level.
