Here's something kind of wonderful. You are not stuck with a single strategy to find a percentage amount!
Today I show you how I think about it, and I am happy to use several strategies to move it right along, but I start by setting the percentage up as its fraction equivalent. If the fraction approach is not right (you'll see why that might be the case) I switch to our other equivalent form; the decimal.
You might ask 'why not just use the decimal all the time?'
My answer is that if I can spot it's going to work with fractions multiplication, I can do that faster on paper than I can pull a calculator and enter the info! And sometimes I can even do it in my head! And you are quickly going to become just as strong at spotting that, and solving it too.
THAT's why you want 2 ways to find a percent of an amount! We're talking about math flexibility here. Thinking, connecting ideas and building some real math muscle. Now let's get in there and starting kicking it in percentages!!
