This is a Motormouth couple car comparison between the all-new Mazda CX90 versus the refreshed Kia Telluride. The Mazda CX-90 has a 3.3L inline 6 turbo with a mild hybrid system and an 8-speed automatic transmission. There are two variations, the standard model with regular fuel has 280 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque and the high output model with premium fuel 340 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. You can put regular fuel in the high output model but you will get a lower horsepower number, torque stays the same. Standard rear-biased AWD.
The Kia Telluride has a 3.8L V6 engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 291 horsepower and 262 lb-feet of torque, standard AWD in Canada. FWD and AWD options in the US. Regular fuel is recommended.
The Kia Telluride is bigger offering over 2” more front row legroom, 3” more second row legroom and an inch more third row legroom. The CX-90 cargo space behind the third row is also smaller, the Telluride has over 6 cubic feet more space and an extra 12.8 cubic feet of overall cargo space.
In Canada, the Mazda CX-90 has a lower starting price at $45,900 CAD compared to the Telluride at $50,195 CAD. In the US, it’s the opposite, the Telluride AWD model has a lower starting price, the Mazda is a little bit higher at $39,595 USD, the Kia $37,890 USD.
The top trim to top trim, the Kia Telluride comes in less and it’s a 7-passenger vehicle, the Mazda 6-passenger. In Canada, the X-Pro is $62,795 CAD and the Mazda high output Signature with more power is $63,300 CAD, not a huge difference but in the US, the difference is more substantial, the CX-90 is an extra $6,965 USD.
Both the CX90 and Telluride can tow 5,000 pounds, but the Telluride X-Pro model can tow an extra 500 pounds.
The Mazda CX90 does a little better with fuel economy, the standard inline 6 gets 9.9L/100 km, 24 MPG city and 8.4L/100 km, 28 MPG highway. The high output model 10.3L/100 km, 23 MPG city and 8.5L/100 km, 28 MPG highway.
