Last week, developers over at Santa Monica Studio revealed in an interview podcast that an original story draft for God of War Ragnarok had Kratos die in the first Thor fight of the game. The death of Kratos would be followed by having you play as Atreus, and rescue him from hell 20 years into the future. While Kratos' death would have therefore not been final, many people have gone on to compare the original story concept to how The Last of Us Part II and its story turned out. However, I believe the comparisons aren't necessarily jusitifed. In this video, I discuss my thoughts on the early story idea as well as compare it to The Last of Us Part II, reflecting on how both games did and would have tackled an event like this in their narratives.
