BEING A JANE AUSTEN CHARACTER: SPEND A REGENCY WEEKEND IN ENGLAND WITH US// Happy Tuesday everyone, We just returned from beautiful Hampshire, England where we experienced the most amazing Regency weekend. We went to the Jane Austen Regency Week which takes place every year in Alton and Chawton. We started last Saturday at Alton's High Street where there were lots of stalls and many people all dressed up in Regency costumes. Of course we wore Regency costumes as well and it was such a great experience. Joerg definitely looked the part and resembled Mr Darcy and I tried to channel my inner Elizabeth Bennet. We also went on a Jane Austen town walk where you can find many places and houses connected to Jane.

Our personal highlight was going to Chawton on Sunday - Chawton is the most picturesque English village with many fairytale cottages that look especially beautiful now with all their roses in full bloom. Jane Austen spent the last 8 years of her life at Chawton Cottage. During that time four of her novels were published: Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Sense and Sensibility, and Mansfield Park. We went on a morning walk and then gathered in front of Jane Austen's House to go to Chawton House where her brother Edward Knight lived. It was a lovely summer day and we had a glorious Regency picnic with wonderful people. It seems very timely now since the new film adaptation of 'Persuasion' is coming to Netflix next month.
