Along with “679,” it propelled the previously unknown Jersey rapper’s self-titled debut album to the coveted #1 spot in its first week on the charts. Additionally, the ascendant journey that “Trap Queen” took from Soundcloud obscurity to 25 weeks on the Billboard Top 10 and two GRAMMY noms, laid the bricks for what would eventually become a somewhat standard career path for the rest of the decade - one that Billie Eilish, Juice Wrld and others paced to their own stardom. It’s rare that an artist shows up at our studio to play an old hit. That Fetty crossed the Hudson River to throw down his classic proves that he’s proud of his past accomplishments.
