According to inside-EVs-dot-com, the Hyundai motor group is reported to have the record-breaking year for electrified car sales globally, with its first-ever dedicated E-V IONIQ 5 leading the pack, with nearly 50,000 units sold, year-to-date October 2021. However, that really doesn’t tell the whole story, as there are about an equal number of orders that need to be filled with the anticipated wait time of 6 months to 1 year. In fact, in the markets such as the US, the delivery date of the nation’s first IONIQ 5 is still unknown, yet even without the release of the official pricing information, the orders are piling up.
The only bright side to the story is that Hyundai Is increasing the production output of EVs, from this year’s 166,000 units to 300,000 units in 2022, as the company has recently confirmed that it has acquired all the batteries and components necessary to meet the production needs until 2023.
While this production conundrum is being unraveled, it’s reported that Hyundai is implementing a major revision on its bestselling E-V only after 1 year of production.
