There are 6 Satellites throughout the city of New York. The role is to bring large amounts of water into a fire scene off large water mains. They all carry around 3,000 feet of 6inch LDH Hose and Around 1,500 feet of 3inch Hose. Satellites respond on all 2nd Alarms with the exception of some areas throughout the city. Staten Island gets the Satellite on the All Hands Signal so they will not get one on the 2nd Alarm. The Bronx gets a Satellite on the All Hands Signal for Fires in Riverdale Section & City Island. Brooklyn gets a Satellite on the All Hands Signal for Fires in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, Bush Terminal and Floyd Bennett Field. Queens on the All Hands Signal gets one in Breezy Point. There are other areas that might get a Satellite assigned on initial responses light Edgewater Park in the Bronx and most Bridges in NYC. All Satellites are manned by 2 Firefighters off parent engine companies or the back up engine companies. They have connections for crash trucks at airports and mutual aid adaptors for boarding towns. They carry a Manifold on wheels with a 4.5 inch inlet and 2.5 and 3inch outlets. Hose Ramps, Foam Shoot, FIMM, 32 Pails of Hi Ex Foam. A Large Deluge Monitor that can flow up to 4k gallons of water. They Respond to 10-86 & 10-87 Foam Signals. Anytime a Marine Unit is Operating at a All Hands Fire on Land and Special Called throughout the City. Satellites are part of the Water System Operations which was point into place in 1998 when the Department needed high volume of water at a major alarm fire. The Officer on the Satellite becomes the Water Resource Officer when arrives on scene. When 3 Satellites are being used at a scene SAT 1, SAT 5 & SAT 4 Must be covered. Red Fire Hydrants mean large mains. FIMM is the "Foam Injection metering module" controls the amount of foam basically a flow meter.
