What do you do if your refrigerator stops working but your freezer still works? Here is a temporary fix/ hack that will help.
Tools used:
-utility/razor knife
-flat head screwdriver
-wet/dry vac
Well here’s what i did. Since my fridge had dual temperature controls(meaning the fridge and freezer had their own thermostats to control the temperature) but the fan that blew cold air into the frig compartment stopped working. The compressor that makes the air cold was still working and blowing cold air into the freezer.
Most refrigerators that i have ever seen are usually hard plastic compartments lined with foam insulation and then have an outer shell made of fiberglass, aluminum, steel, or other metal. So all i did was take a utility knife and carefully cut the bottom frig compartment plastic. Then remove the foam insulation slowly with my hand and sometimes a flat head screwdriver. I came across the electrical line that fed the freezer light so i just cut around it. And then cut the plastic that lined the freezer.
Well would you know the upper fridge compartment started getting cold again after the doors being closed for just a few minutes. So after vacuuming and clean up I put some of the food back in that didn’t spoil. Now we were just waiting on the new frig to come.
This will not work for all refrigerators and as with any diy, fix, or hack caution must always be exercised.
