EastEnders casts Eurovision hopeful Olly Alexander in surprise move

Olly Alexander, the aspiring Eurovision contestant, has landed a surprising role in EastEnders. Set to appear in a special episode ahead of the Eurovision Song Contest, the Years & Years singer will grace the iconic Queen Vic pub in Albert Square. His character's visit to Walford brings delight to the locals and marks a memorable moment for fans.

In the episode, Johnny Carter, played by Charlie Suff, receives a visit from his friend Olly, who is busy rehearsing for Eurovision nearby. As Olly makes a pit-stop at the Queen Vic, he is warmly welcomed by the residents of Walford. However, his appearance isn't the only surprise in store for viewers, as one character plans a heartfelt proposal during the same event.

Excited about his guest role, Olly expressed his joy at being part of EastEnders and having the chance to meet the show's esteemed cast and crew. Despite filming the scenes back in March, he managed to keep it a secret from his close family, particularly his mother, who is a devoted fan of the show.

Executive Producer Chris Clenshaw shared his excitement about Olly's cameo, highlighting the synergy between the singer's fandom and the show's storyline. He hopes that viewers will enjoy Olly's appearance as much as the EastEnders team enjoyed having him on set.

This isn't the first time Olly Alexander has ventured into television, having previously starred in the acclaimed series "It's A Sin" in 2021. Now, ahead of his Eurovision journey representing the UK with the song "Dizzy," Olly's cameo in EastEnders adds another dimension to his diverse career. Fans can catch him on Albert Square on May 1st, just days before the Eurovision grand final airs on May 11th.
