Ingredients -
- 1x 5 - 6 pound bone-in pork shoulder or pork butt
- 2 tbsp olive oil, split
- 3 - 4 tbsp dry rub seasoning of your choice
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 tbsp BBQ sauce
- 1x 20 oz can of crushed pineapple

Steps -
1). Remove pork shoulder or pork butt from the packaging and pat completely dry with a paper towel.
2). Drizzle with olive oil as your binder then liberally season the pork all over with the dry rub. Let the pork sit out at room temperature for 10 - 15 minutes so the dry rub will adhere to the pork and the pork will begin to sweat.
3). Place a skillet on medium high heat, drizzle 1 tbsp oil into the pan and then sear each side of the pork. About 1 - 2 minutes per side until well browned.
4). Remove the seared pork from the pan and set aside. Keep the pan over medium high heat, pour in water and stir to deglaze. Allow the water to reduce for 1 - 1.5 minutes over the heat, stirring constantly.
5). Pour the reduced liquid into the bottom of the crockpot. Next, drizzle in the BBQ sauce and add 1 can of crushed pineapples to the liquid. Keep 2 - 3 tbsp of the crushed pineapple aside.
6). Place the seared pork shoulder into the crockpot, top it with the crushed pineapple that you set aside and then cook over low heat for at least 8 hours or until it becomes pull apart tender.
7). Remove the cooked pork shoulder from the crockpot and place into a large bowl. Using forks or your hands, shred/pull the pork apart to your desired consistency. Recommendation - Add in a few spoonfuls of the pineapple liquid to the pulled pork and toss to combine.
8). Eat as is or turn it into a taco like I did in this video. Enjoy!
