Chavie Weisberger reveals the horrific truth of what it was like to grow up as one of the Hasidic Jews in an extreme branch of an ultra-Orthodox Jewish community in New York started by her own grandpa. She identifies as queer, which made it extremely difficult to grow up in such a community as well as to leave it...meaning she had to pretend to be straight and to be religious...or lose custody of her kids. In episode 240 of On the Edge with Andrew Gold podcast, she talks of the horrors of some aspects of her ultra orthodox jewish wedding, and losing her kids to the ultra orthodox community, much like the Netflix series Unorthodox.
