02:11 Variation 2 (Mother only)

Hello there!
As you can see, I'm playing on a very particular harpsichord in this video. It is called a "moeder en kind muselaar", translated "mother and child muselaar". It consists of the "mother", the large 8-foot pitch virginal-like instrument, and the "child", a small 4-foot pitch ottavino which sounds an octave higher. The fun thing is that the child can be coupled with the mother, so the can play together! See for a demonstration of this variation 1.

Music: "The Queens Alman" by William Byrd (1540 - 1623)

Mother and child Muselaar after Ioannes Ruckers (1623, Stuttgart) built by Hans Nieuwenhuijzen who works for Bom Harpsichords in the Netherlands.

Pitch: 415 Hz
Temperament: 1/4 meantone
Recording device: Zoom H4n Pro
Recorded on 29th of August 2022 in the workshop of Bom Harpsichord in Schoonhoven.
