Progress on testing a cheap but decent shredder...

Make your own much lower cost version of Dave Hakkens' Precious Plastic shredder. Are you a student on a budget doing something with plastic recylcing? If so, this project is for you! Just make sure you have an adult handy when using any power tools.

This is definitely not as powerful, but it's plenty good to do some low volume plastic shredding for different things, and you can learn a lot about mechanical engineering and tools along the way!

NOTE: I've been cutting things for decades, and am pretty used to my equipment and its limits. However, I caution you all, PLEASE OBSERVE ALL SAFETY PROTOCOLS, ESPECIALLY AROUND CHILDREN! When I'm working with children, I always try to make it as safe as possible. Also note, I'm aware that this whole project could be done more professionally, but I jut wanted to do a fast proof of concept here, to demo that this sort of thing would work. In the next stages, I'd make templates and files for folks to download and share, but for now, we're still testing things. So, stay tuned.

All the parts in this video were sourced from scrap, or found cheap, like washers, the rods, and nuts. Tools were borrowed, or purchased (like an angle grinder for $12 with coupon. The motor, purchased used, was the main expense in the project. But, look around on CL, you might find a great one really cheap!
