Playing Steampunk Guitar Build - Heavy Metal

Hey guys on this weeks edition of BS with AJ I show you how I built my very first guitar! but not just any guitar! Its a literal heavy metal guitar and its a steampunk style! This is by far my favorite project I have ever built! It definitely took me out of my comfort zone, for starters I've never built a guitar before. But Ive certainly never attempted to put soo many parts together to form a working instrument! And the fact that it works and works properly is amazing to me! I still cant believe I pulled it off lol.
So lets talk about what all this is made of, I used the neck of an old guitar I purchased specifically for this project. I looked into building one, and then into buying one for it, but to be honest it wasn't in my budget. Considering most of the parts were free, the electronics is the only part that cost me very much, other than my time that is lol. I talked to several mechanic shops around my home town and asked if they had any spare parts they planned on throwing away, and I was directed to the junk pile to search through. which is where the big box of random parts came from lol.
The outer edge of the body is made from a motorcycle chain, I used two sprockets from the same motorcycle as part of it, I found several decent size gears to throw in the mix, I tore apart a weed eater to use the piston that is on this guitar, and for the bottom piece to throw it all together I used a transmission cooler from an old car of mine.
To be honest the hardest part wasn't putting it all together, that just took some imagination and a lot of time tack welding everything to fit perfectly in place lol. The hardest part was the very first piece I made. The main part of the body which had to hold the tension from the strings, so I used a 1/4 piece of steel to ensure that it wouldn't bow when I started to tune the guitar. this is the only piece that had to be perfect. which it still wasn't but it was pretty close lol. I had to build the neck pocket and align the bridge and keep the proper height, distance and above all else keep it square. It was the most challenging part of the build and it definitely took the longest, I used the old guitar body to measure out the neck pocket and the distance needed for everything to work properly and to my amazement it all worked out in the end!

And I'm sure some of you are confused about why I used a grill in this video lol. To finish this guitar out to make it look its best did a Hot Blueing process, I didn't have a torch to do it the way I would have liked to, But the grill kept it at the proper temp to get a decent blue color on it, Then I doused it in used motor oil. After doing some research on the process that seemed to be the best way to make it all work. Once I had the blueing processes complete I used break cleaner to de-grease the entire body of the guitar and then used a spray on clear coat to seal it up to keep it from rusting. I thought about powder coating it black, but I decided to go this direction instead since it made it look a little rougher, which is clearly the style I was going for lol
