I've made several tutorials about YouTube TV but recently I've received quite a few comments from viewers asking how to watch YouTube TV on an actual TV. First of all, on your computer you need to sign up for the free trial or start a subscription to YouTube TV if you haven't already yet. This will require a Gmail address, password and a credit card. And yes, the credit card is needed even with the free trial. To avoid being charged you can cancel before the free trial ends.

Now that your account is set up, the easiest way to watch YouTube TV on an HDTV is to install the app. All smart TVs will have the ability to download streaming software from various providers. On my LG TV, there's a content store where I can find the YouTube TV app for download. If you have another brand of TV, there should be something similar. Once installed, sign in with the Gmail address and password from your account and then it's ready to go.

But what if you have an older TV or a TV without the ability to install apps? In this case you'll need an external streaming device like a Chromecast, ROKU, Apple TV or Amazon FireStick. I have a 13-inch Samsung TV that doesn't have any smart capabilities so I use my Chromecast to watch YouTube TV on it. The Chromecast plugs into an HDMI port and when sign in with my Gmail address, I can access everything just like I do on my smart TV. Streaming devices are very inexpensive so it's a great way to go without having to upgrade your TV.

If you're a gamer, you can watch YouTube TV using an Xbox or Playstation gaming console. This is ideal if you don't own a smart TV or have an external streaming device. On either console, just go to the App Store and download the YouTube TV app. Again, just sign in with your Gmail address and password to access YouTube TV. But if you're not a gamer without a smart TV, I suggest getting one of the inexpensive streaming devices I mentioned earlier.
