Real vs Relative Motion
This concept was first brought to my attention by Gary Gray. It was further elaborated on but in a different context by Bill Hartman, Zac Cupples, David Gray. All do a great job of discussing the importance of relative motion. However, I think all 4 do a poor job of applying it to closed chain movements where the foot is fixated to the ground through the heel. As opposed to athletic and locomotion based movement that involves more ball of foot pressure and less fixation of the limb to the ground. Understanding the relative motion concept as well as how to apply it in rehab, plyometrics, sport, and lifting is super important for all physical therapists and strength coaches.
