Everyone that has seen the original video believes the roofer is the hero, trying to fight for the homeowner while the evil insurance company adjuster doesn't agree.

While I don't disagree that the insured is likely owed a new roof, a contractor should not be negotiating an insurance claim. It is a conflict of interest at best. In 47 states there are laws that say only a public adjuster or a lawyer can settle a claim for a homeowner. In FL it is a felony for any unlicensed persons to 'help' with the claims process.

At the end of the day, a contractor has little to no influence on what the insurance company offers and it results in take it or leave it settlements that leave a homeowner underpaid.

The roofer seems to be fighting for a noble cause, but simply is not a licensed claims professional. The best way to handle a claim is to use state licensed public adjuster to present the loss properly and negotiate a proper settlement. Even more important are the consumer protections included when you use a licensed and regulated professional.

A contractor has their place in an insurance claim and that place does not include assistance with the claims process. 47 States have laws that license public adjusters to assist the insured with the claims process.
