Remember your first pair of good fitting running shoes? That pair that felt like it was made for your foot and that convinced you that you could run as fast as the wind? Whether they came as a gift or during the yearly "back to school" shopping trip, there's no better feeling than a new pair of running shoes.
For many youth in the Burnaby area, that new-shoe feeling is not a reality. With limited opportunity and privilege, too many kids in the Burnaby elementary school system are making due with poor fitting and worn out footwear.
Through our Shoe Bank Program and community donations, Fit First Footwear donated almost 700 pairs of lightly worn running shoes to young adults and older populations in need. While we're proud of that, we realized that we've never been able to consistently gather lightly worn or new youth shoes. Understandably, kids are hard on their shoes and by the time they've outgrown them, the shoes are in no shape for donation or up-cycling! This left us unable to do much to help the elementary kids in need of shoes.
So, we thought we'd leverage our vendor relationships, and turn to our amazing community of runners and walkers who know all about that new shoe feel!
Whether you're a runner, walker, racer or plodder, we're calling on our community to help us equip as many in-need Burnaby kids as possible with a BRAND NEW pair of quality running shoes!! With every $30 ticket purchased, Fit First Footwear will buy and donate 1 pair of kids shoes. That's right, 1 ticket = 1 pair of donated shoes!!
On the week of April 23rd-30th, we're challenging you to lace up and get out for as many runs or walks as possible! Take that second to remember your first pair and feel good about giving a youngster that same feeling!
