Back in the day I made a video called "How to Build the Perfect Villain" where I looked at a few different movie villains to see what made them great. The one piece missing from that video is the introduction -- how to unveil a villain on screen in a way that instantly makes the villain find a home in the audience's head for the rest of the movie and beyond. One way is to be Quentin Tarantino level of a writer but there's also a couple screenwriting hacks to use. In today's Film Perfection, let's see what they are... how to introduce a villain.

Seven (1995)
Director David Fincher's dark, stylish thriller ranks as one of the decade's most influential box-office successes. Set in a hellish vision of a New York-like city, where it is always raining and the air crackles with impending death, the film concerns Det. William Somerset (Morgan Freeman), a homicide specialist just one week from a well-deserved retirement. Every minute of his 32 years on the job is evident in Somerset's worn, exhausted face, and his soul aches with the pain that can only come from having seen and felt far too much. But Somerset's retirement must wait for one last case, for which he is teamed with young hotshot David Mills (Brad Pitt), the fiery detective set to replace him at the end of the week. Mills has talked his reluctant wife, Tracy (Gwyneth Paltrow), into moving to the big city so that he can tackle important cases, but his first and Somerset's last are more than either man has bargained for. A diabolical serial killer is staging grisly murders, choosing victims representing the seven deadly sins.

The Bourne Supremacy (2004)
The second chapter in the "Bourne Trilogy," based on Robert Ludlum's best-selling espionage novels, reaches the screen in this sequel to the 2002 thriller The Bourne Identity. Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) has abandoned his life as a CIA assassin and has been traveling beneath the agency's radar, eventually reconnecting with Marie Kreutz (Franka Potente), the woman he loves. But Bourne is haunted by vivid dreams and troubling memories of his days as a killer, and he's not certain how much really happened and how much is a product of his imagination. When Bourne is led out of hiding by circumstances beyond his control, he must reconcile his past and present as he struggles to keep Marie out of harm's way and foil an international incident with dangerous consequences.

Mission Impossible Fallout (2018)
After a dangerous assignment involving the recovery of stolen plutonium goes wrong, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) elects to keep his team out of harm's way rather than complete their mission, which results in a team of expertly trained operatives taking possession of nuclear weapons. Consequently, Ethan and his IMF team (Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson) must join forces with CIA assassin August Walker (Henry Cavill) in order to prevent a catastrophic nuclear fallout. Produced, written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie. Also starring Alec Baldwin, Angela Bassett, and Michelle Monaghan
