EXT. IN FRONT OF THE SKI LODGE - DAY
Stan walks up to the ski instructor, holding his skis.
STAN
Mr. Ski instructor? I need a lot of training, fast. I'm going to race down the K-13.
SKI INSTRUCTOR
The K-13?! You're just a beginner! You ski out of your league, you're gonna have a bad time.
STAN
I have to do this. I have to.
SKI INSTRUCTOR
Well, if you have to get good at something really fast, there's only one way to do it. Come on!
MONTAGE MUSIC begins - in fact, it is a song called 'Got To Have a Montage'.
A) Stan on the bunny hill with the instructor, who is talking and widening Stan's pole stance.
SONG
The day is approaching - To give it your best-
Stan starts snowplowing down the mountain.
SONG (CONT'D)
And you've got to reach your prime.
B) Stan with the ski instructor doing Tai Chi with their skis on.
SONG (CONT'D)
That's when you need to put yourself to the test-
C) Stan skiing slowly with a blindfold on as the Instructor watches. The dorky girl appears from behind a tree in the background, and we cut into her smiling, looking at Stan.
SONG (CONT'D)
And show us passage of time. We're gonna need a montage.
D) Weight room - Stan is bench pressing with the ski instructor behind him.
SONG (CONT'D)
A sport's training montage.
E) Stan skis slowly, in side view, down the hill and passes the instructor who stops his stop watch, and then shakes his head.
SONG (CONT'D)
You got to show a lot of things happening at once-
F) The dorky girl checking out her body in the mirror - she pulls down her sweater to reveal cleavage.
SONG (CONT'D)
Remind everyone of what's going on
G) A shot of Tad flying off a jump, flipping and landing it. Tad lands the jump, then gets a big hug from Heather.
SONG (CONT'D)
And with every shot show a little improvement - to show it all would take too long.
H) The youth center kids in front of the youth center trying to stop a bulldozers that is driving in. One of the kids has a sign that says 'Save our Youth Center!'
SONG (CONT'D)
That's called a montage.
I) Stan skiing by the instructor - he stops his watch and still shakes his head, but makes a 'close' signal with his fingers.
SONG (CONT'D)
Even Rocky had a montage.
J) The dorky girl reading from a book called 'Skiing for Idiots' PAN OVER to Stan, who is asleep. The girl nudges him to wake him up, and then starts reading again.
SONG (CONT'D)
In any sport if you want to go-
K) Stan snowplowing down the hill towards camera carrying a pole on his back that is weighted down on each side with bricks.
SONG (CONT'D)
From just a beginner to a pro-
L) Kyle standing in front of the K-13 (Out of focus right now) He holds up a picture of Stan and him together, then turns around and looks at the K-13 which comes into focus
SONG (CONT'D)
You need a montage.
M) Stan skis by the instructor again (still slowly in snow plow position) this time the instructor stops the stopwatch and smiles, giving a big thumbs up to Stan.
SONG (CONT'D)
A simple little montage.
N) The parents at another timeshare meeting in the office, looking bored stiff. Stan's dad checks his watch.
SONG (CONT'D)
Always fade out in a montage...
O) The song starts to FADE as Stan, the instructor and the dorky girl step into frame, backview, facing the K-13. Then reverse to show their determined faces.
SONG (CONT'D)
(Fading out)
That seems to work best in a montage... See how well that worked? Montage...
