VN24 - 01-04-2024 (D/M/Y) - Dortmund / Germany - On Monday afternoon, an 89-year-old man drove his car backwards down a slope into a pond. The driver and the female passenger suffered minor injuries. According to initial investigations, the man drove his car forwards into a garage at around 3:10 pm. There he collided with a shelf. He then put the car into reverse and pressed the gas pedal. He then reversed down a slope at high speed, broke through a fence and came to rest on the left side of the vehicle three meters below in a pond. A 44-year-old local resident who heard the accident immediately rushed to help. He righted the car, smashed the passenger side window and freed the 86-year-old passenger. The fire department rescued the driver with the help of a turntable ladder. Ambulances took the two occupants to hospital. The Golf car was then lifted out of the pond using a salvage company's crane. The fire department's environmental service dealt with the spillage in the pond.
